In 2000, we opened a brand new, £1.5m, 20,000 sq.ft. purpose-designed factory in Blackburn, Lancashire, with the specific aim of developing our market coverage in north and central England as well as Scotland. And with over 1,100 bodies delivered in its first two years, what a success it has been!
Meeting the needs
From day one, the Blackburn facility has been producing bodies for customers ranging from North East to South Wales and from the Scottish highlands to Birmingham. Already we are reaching production levels we scarcely thought possible, meeting the needs of a particularly high number of tipper businesses in Lancashire, Manchester and West Yorkshire.Why is Blackburn so popular?
A clean, modern, highly efficient assembly plant that's a showcase not just for Thompsons, but the whole tipper bodybuilding industry.Spacious and easy to get to from the motorway, our Blackburn site is the polar opposite of the more usual scruffy, back street bodybuilder.
In addition, Blackburn benefits from a full complement of the latest machine tools, so the quality of the finished product is assured. This is an efficient plant too, which helps us to reduce lead times and speed delivery.
Extending Blackburn's production
A new purpose-built facility will be built adjacent to the company's existing factory in Blackburn, Lancashire. At around 30,000 square feet, the new operation will have a total area some 50% larger than the current premises, with the ability to handle up to 100 vehicles on site at any one time.Contact information
